Keepin’ it Movin’ Keepin’ it Sexy

“One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain” crooned Bob Marley, but what if you want to keep it sexy? We could throw in some D’Angelo, maybe some Prince, or even some Eryka Badu. What if we want to keep it movin’ and keep it sexy at the same time? One answer is clear to me: Chromeo. You may have heard of them? Let’s hope you have, but if not, here’s a quick rundown. Hailing from Montreal, Canada, these two childhood friends Dave1 (David Macklovitch) and P-Thugg (Patrick Gemayel) combine synthesizers, drums and a talk box to make some of the smoothest, sexiest electro love songs that would make Sade lose control. Proving that music can transcend anything, this Jewish/Arab combo (what? you say!) have been rocking stages since 2004 when the song I’ve included here took over DJ’s record boxes (when we were carrying records) and moved butts all over the world. Dave1’s brother is A-Trak, maybe you have heard of him? If you were into turntablism or DJing in general in the 90’s, the child prodigy from Canada took the DMC’s by storm. Now all grown up and the DJ for some unknown musician named Kanye, a connection with A-Trak surely couldn’t hurt, but Chromeo have no problem getting the job done all on their own. Check out the collaboration with Blue Eyed Soul icon Daryl Hall from this past year at Bonnaroo and Live from Daryl’s house below.

Since the beginning, Chromeo have indeed been free thinkers. They embraced an 80’s sexy sound, ran with it, and have been spreading the good word from Montreal to NYC to every corner of the world. How do these unique musicians fit into the freethinking movement and freethinking nyc you may ask? They absolutely fit in. Their grooves so infectious that even the biggest wallflower can not sit down when they come on. If you haven’t done your dance homework, and are still stuck on Z100’s playlist, I urge you to step back, turn off your terrestrial radio, go to iTunes or where ever you get your music from, get the entire Chromeo discography, put it into whatever media player you have, put on a comfortable pair of shoes, and just dance. You will thank me later. If you want to always keep it movin’ and keep it sexy, Chromeo is the answer.
