Damn that Gilles Peterson. He’s always not one, but about four hundred steps ahead. And so, when he posted a link to YouTube, with the simple line ‘check this’, I felt it only right. And, sweet baby Jesus, I am glad I did.
Have you ever heard of the Soul Rebels Brass Band? If you have (and I have found out that some of my friends were aware of the name), then why haven’t you told me about them sooner?
I’ll keep my commentary brief here, as the video really does speak for itself. It’s simple – a walk across from Embankment to the South Bank in London. A brass band. ‘Crazy’ by Gnarls Barkley. And lots of miserable commuters.
I like to think that if I was there to witness this stunning rendition, I would have at least stopped to appreciate it in all its splendour. But no, instead we get people clearly uninterested at best – and some properly pissed off at the band being in the way.
This is brilliant. I am now officially a fan. You will be, too.
